For the past two years “Winter of Wells” has enjoyed cult status: hundreds of thousands of viewers have followed the 22 episodes of the online documentary about Jossi Wells and his ski-obsessed family. But that’s not enough, according to director Tim Pierce: since the start of the year he has been shooting a DVD documentary about Jossi, Byron, Beau and Jackson Wells and their parents Bruce and Stacey. “The story of the Wells family is one of the most exciting tales there has ever been in action sport,” says Pierce, “Which is why I want to introduce this unique family, which has spawned four of the most talented freeskiers in the world.” In 52 action-packed minutes, viewers are not only given a surprising insight into the dynamics of an exceptional family. They get to experience skiing at a whole new level. “This docu-DVD aims to give the fans more than ever before. It’s like ‘Winter of Wells’ on steroids.”

“Winter of Wells — The Documentary” will be released online and on DVD in fall 2011.

Harry in his own words has been fishing on Lake Hawea since before he was born, he bought the family farm in 1984 and diversified into tourism and fishing in the 1990s. In describing Lake Hawea Harry says “How can you describe that – you’ve just got to live it”.

Harry was born here into one of the old, established farming families in the area. He is one of 6 children – 5 brothers and one sister. His ancestors arrived in Dunedin in 1874 from around Loch Ness and The Isle of Harris in Scotland, where they were landless shepherds and fishermen who later acquired government land grant in the Upper Clutha region.

Pulling off a Back Country trip amidst New Zealands biggest mountains is something akin to a miracle. As the weather gods deal their hand, our initial two-week window is whittled down to a single 3 day opportunity. Sticking to our guns, we pack the cars and convoy to Mt Cook Village, our starting point located at the foot of NZ’s biggest mountains. What follows is a trip where endurance, team effort and the gritty NZ spirit of adventure replace lift queues, rope lines and greasy resort hotdogs. One we like to call The Whole Nine Yards.
